Should I Choose the RTX 5060 with 16GB RAM or the RTX 5050 with 32GB for a Budget AM4 Gaming PC?

I'm putting together a budget gaming PC in Peru, where local component prices can vary a lot. I'm sticking with the AM4 platform and a Ryzen 5 5500 because stepping up to a faster CPU nearly doubles the price. The rest of the build will be identical; I'm mainly deciding between these two combinations at roughly 3,500–3,537 PEN (about $930–$940 USD for the complete PC):

Option 1: Ryzen 5 5500, 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200, and an RTX 5050.
Option 2: Ryzen 5 5500, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3600, and an RTX 5060.

For gaming, would the stronger GPU in Option 2 be more valuable than the extra system memory? Is 16GB still enough for modern games if I avoid running many background programs, or is 32GB now the safer choice? I'd also appreciate advice about possible CPU or PCIe bottlenecks, alternative GPUs, used parts, and any important considerations such as power-supply quality.

For gaming, I’d choose the RTX 5060 and 16GB of RAM. The GPU has a much larger effect on frame rates than increasing memory from 16GB to 32GB, and 16GB is still adequate for most games as long as you aren’t running lots of browser tabs or other heavy applications in the background. You can add another matching memory kit later if you start running into limits.

If you can find a Ryzen 5 5600 used at a modest premium, it would be a worthwhile alternative. It has more cache and better overall gaming performance than the 5500, which helps reduce the CPU bottleneck while keeping the system on AM4.

The Ryzen 5 5500 can hold back a card as fast as the RTX 5060, particularly at 1080p or when targeting very high refresh rates. It also only supports PCIe 3.0, which can make performance behavior worse with GPUs that have a narrow PCIe interface. If pricing is reasonable, compare the cost of a used Ryzen 5 5600 or a graphics card with more VRAM, such as an RX 9060 XT 16GB, RX 7700 XT, or RX 6800.

A 16GB kit running at 3600 MT/s is a sensible starting point for this budget build. The extra speed can help the Ryzen 5 5500 a little, although capacity matters more once a game actually exceeds 16GB. Check that your motherboard has four DIMM slots and buy a two-stick kit now so a future upgrade to 32GB is straightforward. Also, don’t cut costs on the power supply—choose a reputable unit with a strong warranty rather than saving a small amount on a low-end model.
