Should I Switch from PS5 to a Gaming PC Now or Wait?

The right choice mostly comes down to your budget and the performance you expect. For roughly £300–£500, keeping the PS5 and saving would probably give you better value. Around £900, a used or well-priced AM4 system could make sense, while £1,100 or more opens up newer AM5 hardware. Shopping second-hand can stretch a smaller budget, but make sure you test parts and check their condition.

Some older Intel systems using DDR4 can also perform well at 1080p, although they aren’t necessarily the best long-term choice. If buying one of those systems, update the motherboard firmware first and check the specific processor and board for compatibility and stability.

For the same money, a PS5 can outperform a new PC, particularly if your budget is limited. Unless you specifically want PC features like mods, a larger game library, mouse-and-keyboard support, or upgradeability, there’s no urgent reason to switch. Waiting and saving for a proper upgrade may be the better move.

Waiting a few years is reasonable if you don’t need a PC immediately. Current component prices and demand make this a less attractive time to build, but a good deal on last-generation parts could still be worth taking. For mostly single-player games, Linux with Steam can also work well on older hardware, provided the games don’t depend on restrictive anti-cheat systems.

If you do build soon, an older AM4 platform with an X3D processor and a decent graphics card can still be a strong option for single-player gaming. It may not be the newest platform, but it can offer good value if you find the parts cheaply, especially on the used market.
