The “if it isn’t broken” rule is less useful for modern AM5 systems. BIOS updates can include AGESA, CPU microcode, memory-compatibility, voltage, stability, and security fixes. Some updates have also corrected problems such as inaccurate memory settings. The 7800X3D failures were associated with an older voltage-related issue, and later firmware updates addressed that problem. You should still use the exact BIOS intended for your motherboard and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
For an everyday user, the practical risk from a TPM vulnerability depends on the specific flaw, the firmware version, and whether an attacker can already run code on the machine or gain physical access. It may not be an immediate emergency, but security fixes are still worth installing eventually. If you’re uncomfortable updating immediately, waiting briefly to check for reports about your exact motherboard and BIOS release is reasonable; just don’t treat a permanent “never update” policy as risk-free.
BIOS flashing is generally safer and simpler than it used to be, and many boards have a built-in update utility. Use a stable power source, avoid updating during a storm or when power is fluctuating, don’t interrupt the process, and make sure the computer will not restart or lose power halfway through. If your area has frequent outages, waiting for a reliable period or using a UPS is sensible.
