I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600X and want to upgrade for CPU-heavy games such as BeamNG.drive and other simulation titles. I'm considering either a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or a Core i7-14700KF. The processors cost roughly the same, and I'm not concerned about replacing my motherboard for the Intel option. This system will be paired with an RX 9070 XT. Would the 14700KF's additional cores make a meaningful difference, especially in games that run many vehicles or simulation objects?

With a good DDR4 kit, the 14700KF and 5800X3D can be fairly close in gaming performance. With DDR5, the Intel chip usually pulls further ahead, while the 5800X3D makes more sense if you already have AM4 hardware or slower DDR4 that you don’t want to replace.
For BeamNG specifically, the 14700KF may be the better choice because the game can benefit from additional cores when you’re running lots of vehicles. It’s also generally stronger for multicore productivity. The difference probably won’t be enormous in every game, though, and you’ll need a new motherboard and DDR5 memory to get the most from the Intel platform.
The 5800X3D is still an excellent gaming upgrade, especially if you want to keep your existing AM4 motherboard and memory. Its extra cache can help quite a bit in CPU-limited games, and it’s less dependent on having especially fast RAM. For ordinary gaming, it can be very competitive with the 14700KF.
Whichever Intel board you choose, update it to a current BIOS and use a capable CPU cooler. The 14700KF can draw considerably more power and produce more heat than the 5800X3D, so include cooling and platform costs in the comparison rather than looking only at the CPU prices.
The extra cores matter most if you’re using many cars or doing other heavily threaded work. For typical gaming loads, cache and single-threaded performance are at least as important as the core count.
