After Telegram was temporarily affected by an Apple App Store issue this week, I opened the app Tuesday night and found that my six-year-old account had been logged out even though I hadn't done it myself. When I signed back in using the same phone number I originally registered in 2020, Telegram showed an empty account. My longtime username, contacts, and subscribed news channels were all missing, and two-factor authentication didn't help restore the original profile. In the past, logging out and back in had always brought everything back. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to recover the account data?

This sounds more like a session or account-recognition problem than a normal logout. Double-check that the number was entered with the correct country code and that you didn’t somehow sign into a different account tied to another number. If Telegram is treating the number as a new account, the old cloud data may not be attached to it, so support would likely be the only route to recovery.
The Apple incident appears to have involved Telegram being temporarily unavailable or restricted in the App Store. That could explain unusual login or session behavior around the same time, but it doesn’t by itself confirm that accounts were deleted. Check Telegram’s official support and account-recovery options before creating or changing anything else.
I opened Telegram after not using it for about a week and everything was still working normally for me. That suggests this wasn’t a universal outage, although a smaller number of users may have run into account or session issues.

I used the exact same phone number I registered with in 2020, but Telegram still didn’t recognize the original account after the Apple-related incident.
