Thinking about buying a used PSU – should I go for it?

I'm considering purchasing a used Deepcool PM 850D power supply, but I'm a bit hesitant due to some marks on its body. The seller claims it's still under warranty and that it has just been sitting around. I also read somewhere that it could be that there is some residue or a possible internal capacitor leakage. What should I look for? Are there any red flags? Here's the link to some images: https://postimg.cc/gallery/mFck6qg.

Honestly, I wouldn't take the chance. Power supplies are crucial for your setup, and a used one can be risky. Just get a new one, it’s worth the peace of mind! You really don’t want to find out something's wrong with it later on.

Never buy a used PSU! The only exception might be if it's from a trusted brand and you can see it's in good condition. And even then, it should be very cheap. Remember, warranties don't really mean much on used parts because you usually need to be the original buyer. Just play it safe and go for new.

That PSU really doesn’t look good; it’s all marked up. PSUs aren't that expensive for decent brands, and having a reliable one is super important. Just stick with something newer; it’ll save you headaches down the line.

If the price is right—like around €10—then maybe go for it. But generally, it’s better to invest in a new unit. You can find solid, affordable PSUs that will be reliable without breaking the bank.
