Third-Party iPad Screen Only Detects Styluses in Part of the Display

I had my iPad screen replaced yesterday at a local repair shop because there isn't an Apple Store nearby. Since the repair, two non-Apple styluses only work in one quadrant of the screen, while the rest of the display doesn't detect them properly. I rely on the iPad for college and can't afford to replace the whole device, so I'm wondering whether this is caused by an incompatible aftermarket screen, a faulty installation, or the styluses themselves. Should I take it back to the repair shop and ask them to inspect or replace the screen?

Some aftermarket iPad screens don’t properly support active styluses, including Apple Pencil features. Even if the display looks normal for touch, the digitizer may be defective or incompatible with stylus input. Before buying another stylus, have the shop test it with a known-working compatible pencil and confirm whether the replacement part supports it.

I’m not using Apple Pencils, but I’m still hoping there’s a repair or replacement option that will let a stylus work across the whole screen.

Ask the shop whether they installed an original-quality or aftermarket display and what warranty applies to the repair. Another repair chain may be able to install a better-quality part, but an official service provider may replace the entire unit rather than install an original screen individually. Get a diagnosis and repair estimate before paying for anything else.

Take the iPad back to the repair shop and demonstrate the problem to them. A stylus working only in one section of the display strongly suggests an issue with the replacement digitizer or its connection, rather than something you can fix with a different stylus. Ask them to test the entire screen and check the installation under their repair warranty.

I called them, but they said they had never heard of this issue. I’ll still bring it back and show them exactly what’s happening.
