I've been using the same PC for roughly ten years and haven't upgraded it much. It struggled to maintain 70 FPS in Battlefield 6, and newer games such as Wardogs crash before they can even launch. I recently bought an Odyssey G5 with a 2560×1440 resolution and 180 Hz refresh rate, so I'd like to build a modern gaming PC focused on first-person shooters that can deliver around 100 FPS at 1440p. My budget is approximately $1,000 USD, though I'm willing to spend somewhat more if the performance improvement is worthwhile. I prefer a GeForce graphics card, and I don't care much about the case as long as the core components are good. I already own the monitor, peripherals, and other hardware, so I'm looking strictly for the PC build itself.

If you can hold off for a while, major holiday sales may offer good value on complete gaming PCs or individual components. Last year, some prebuilt systems were priced surprisingly close to the cost of their graphics cards alone, so it’s worth comparing deals rather than buying every part immediately.

That’s possible, but prices have risen significantly since last year, so there’s no guarantee the next round of sales will be as strong. Compare the sale price with current component prices before assuming it’s a bargain.
