I'm looking for a gaming PC under $1,000 that can run Minecraft smoothly, including large multiplayer servers. I don't know much about building computers, so I'm open to either a prebuilt or a custom build. I'd like at least 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, but I also want a decent graphics card and a reasonably modern CPU rather than outdated hardware. What should I look for?

Since you prefer a prebuilt, look for one with a Ryzen 5 5600, Core i5-12400F, or newer equivalent; 16 GB of RAM; a 1 TB NVMe SSD; and a dedicated graphics card rather than integrated graphics. Be careful with listings that advertise lots of RAM or storage but pair them with a very weak GPU or an unknown power supply.
For a new build, an AM4 system is likely the most realistic at this budget. Something based around a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X, 16 GB of DDR4 memory, a 1 TB SSD, and a midrange graphics card should handle Minecraft well. Newer AM5 platforms are faster and more upgradeable, but the motherboard and DDR5 memory can make it difficult to fit a graphics card under $1,000.
A $1,000 budget used to stretch further, so you may need to compromise by buying older hardware or mixing new and used parts. Minecraft generally benefits from strong single-core CPU performance, especially on large servers, while 16 GB of RAM is a good starting point. If the budget includes a monitor and peripherals, expect the PC itself to be lower-spec.
A possible parts list would be a Ryzen 5 5600X, B450 or B550 motherboard, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 1 TB SSD, a suitable midrange GPU such as an RTX 5060 Ti, a reliable 650–750W 80+ Bronze power supply, and a case with decent airflow. Prices vary a lot by location, so compare complete systems before buying. You don’t need an expensive CPU cooler unless the chosen processor doesn’t include one.
Building it yourself and buying some used parts will probably give you the best performance for the money. A used CPU, motherboard, or graphics card can free up enough of the budget for a better overall system, but make sure used parts are tested and come from a trustworthy seller.

I don’t understand all of those parts yet, but I’ll research them. I may need to choose a prebuilt if assembling everything feels too complicated.
