I'm building my first PC and considering a 34-inch curved OLED monitor, likely at 3440×1440 resolution. For a 34-inch ultrawide OLED, focus on the GPU’s performance at 3440×1440 rather than the OLED branding. With a $2,500–$3,000 complete-PC budget, an upper-midrange or high-end GPU is probably the best balance. You don’t need an expensive card just because the display is OLED, though a stronger GPU will help you take better advantage of a 144Hz-or-higher refresh rate.
The OLED panel itself doesn’t determine which GPU you need. The important factors are the monitor’s resolution, refresh rate, the games you play, and your graphics settings. For 3440×1440, a midrange card such as an RX 9060 XT or RTX 5060 Ti 16GB could work, while an RX 9070 XT would give you much more headroom. If you want to push very high settings or use demanding ray tracing, consider a higher-tier card such as an RTX 5080, assuming it fits your budget.
The best choice depends on whether you prioritize maximum FPS, ray tracing, or value. An older high-end card can sometimes be a better purchase than a newer entry-level model, so compare real 3440×1440 benchmarks and current prices before deciding. Also make sure the card has enough VRAM for the games and settings you plan to use.
A 34-inch 1440p ultrawide can look excellent even with a midrange GPU. I use an RTX 3080 with a 34-inch 175Hz QD-OLED and get high frame rates in demanding games at high settings.
