I'm planning some PC upgrades and want to spend my limited budget wisely. My current system has a Ryzen 5 5600, an RTX 2080, and 16GB of DDR4 memory. I mostly play at 1080p and don't usually play very demanding games, but I'd like to handle games such as Monster Hunter Wilds comfortably and keep the system reasonably future-proof.
I have roughly €500 available for a graphics card, and I'm considering an RTX 4060 Ti—preferably the 16GB model—or an RX 7800 XT. I may also upgrade to 32GB of RAM and possibly replace the CPU, but I'm unsure whether the graphics card should be my main priority. Would either of these GPUs be good value, or would another option make more sense for 1080p gaming and a possible future move to 1440p?

The RX 7800 XT is a much stronger choice than the RTX 4060 Ti if you can find it near €500. It has 16GB of VRAM and enough performance for high-refresh 1080p or a future 1440p monitor. Just keep in mind that it may be more GPU than you need right now, and your Ryzen 5 5600 could limit performance in some 1080p games.
I’d avoid choosing solely based on the amount of VRAM. Look at actual performance, pricing, power requirements, and the games you play. The 4060 Ti is generally a poor value beside similarly priced AMD cards, while the 7800 XT offers a substantial performance upgrade over an RTX 2080. Check in-game utilization first so you know whether a GPU upgrade will actually solve your current limitation.
Before buying anything, check GPU and CPU utilization while gaming. At 1080p, an RTX 2080 can still be perfectly adequate, and you may be limited by the Ryzen 5 5600 in some games rather than the graphics card. Upgrading to 32GB of RAM is also worthwhile if your current memory is frequently full.
That makes sense. I’m also considering a CPU upgrade, but I only have about €800 for everything, so I’m trying to decide where the money will have the biggest impact.
For a strictly 1080p setup, you don’t necessarily need a 7800 XT. A less expensive 16GB card could provide better value, while the savings could go toward a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and a 32GB memory kit. If you expect to move to 1440p later, though, the 7800 XT is the more capable long-term option.
I’d like to leave room for a future monitor upgrade, so the extra performance of the 7800 XT is appealing.
