What Should I Upgrade First for a Future 1440p Gaming Build?

I recently started PC gaming and want to plan sensible upgrades instead of replacing parts at random. My current system has an Intel Core i5-14400F, an ASUS Dual RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, an ASUS PRIME H610M-K D4 motherboard, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 memory, a XIGMATEK Z-Power II RGB 600W power supply, and a 1TB Lexar NM620 NVMe SSD. I use a 1440p monitor with a 200Hz refresh rate, and the PC is performing well for now, so I am not planning an immediate upgrade. I am mainly trying to understand what to prioritize over the next few years. If I eventually move to an RTX 5070-class graphics card, could I simply replace the RTX 5060 Ti, or would the power supply, motherboard, or another component need to be replaced at the same time? Is the i5-14400F capable of keeping up with a future 5070-level GPU at 1440p? Would upgrading from 16GB to 32GB of RAM be worthwhile before changing the GPU? Is there any practical reason to replace the H610 motherboard if it continues working properly? If I replace the PSU, what quality and wattage should I target to leave reasonable headroom for future graphics cards? I would appreciate a sensible upgrade order and advice on which components I can comfortably keep for the next few years.

There is no single weakest component until you know what is limiting performance. For 1440p gaming, the GPU will usually be the first part worth replacing when you want higher settings or frame rates. The 14400F should remain suitable for a future RTX 5070-class card in most 1440p games, especially when the target is closer to high settings than extremely high competitive frame rates. A GPU swap does not automatically require a new motherboard; compatibility is generally straightforward as long as the case and power connectors work.

Moving to 32GB of RAM is a worthwhile quality-of-life upgrade and may help with newer games, multitasking, and background applications. It is not necessarily more important than the GPU for gaming performance, though. Since you already have a matched 2x8GB kit, replace it with a matched 2x16GB kit rather than mixing random modules. A reasonable order would be: upgrade to 32GB when you start seeing memory usage or stuttering, replace the PSU before a higher-power GPU, then upgrade the GPU when the RTX 5060 Ti no longer delivers the performance you want. Keep the CPU and motherboard unless actual performance, feature, or compatibility needs give you a reason to replace them.

The current 600W power supply is the part I would be most cautious about. Rather than upgrading it immediately just because it is present, replace it before installing a substantially more powerful graphics card, and choose a reputable, well-reviewed unit with modern protections and the appropriate native GPU connector. Around 750W is a sensible target for many future 5070-level upgrades, though the exact requirement should be checked against the card model you buy. The motherboard does not need replacing solely because it is an H610 board; unless you need more expansion, faster connectivity, additional storage options, or better memory support, it can continue doing its job.
