I bought a CyberPowerPC in 2023 mainly for gaming and didn't pay much attention to the individual parts. It has an AMD Ryzen 7 5700, 16GB of memory, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, and a 2TB SSD. I have around $200 to spend and I'm still learning about PC hardware. What upgrade would make the most sense, and should I check anything about my current setup first?

Before buying anything, figure out whether your 16GB of RAM is one 16GB stick or two 8GB sticks. If it’s a single stick, adding a matching module or replacing the kit with 2x16GB DDR4 could improve performance through dual-channel memory and give you 32GB for newer games. Use HWiNFO or a similar hardware-information tool to check the exact RAM, motherboard, power supply, and cooler models first.
Your current system is still a decent 1080p gaming PC, so there may not be a worthwhile upgrade under $200 unless you’re dealing with a specific problem. Start by identifying what is limiting performance: monitor CPU and GPU usage, temperatures, RAM usage, and frame rates while gaming. Cleaning dust from the case and checking airflow can also help if the PC is running hot or throttling.
The RTX 4060 Ti’s 8GB of VRAM may become a limitation in some newer games, especially at higher settings, but replacing the graphics card would usually cost more than your current budget. I’d avoid upgrading blindly and save for a more meaningful GPU upgrade later. For now, 32GB of RAM is the most practical possibility if your current setup is only 1x16GB or if games are using nearly all of your memory.
I wouldn’t assume the graphics card will be comfortable for every game several years from now, but selling it and moving to a 16GB graphics card would likely require more than $200 after accounting for the replacement cost.

I do need to clean it, so I’ll try that first. That might improve temperatures and performance before I spend money.
