I have a Dell OptiPlex 7050 and realize it was not designed as a gaming PC. I am not trying to run demanding new releases, but I would like to play a few Steam games without major performance problems. My budget is around $300–$500, and I use an Acer UM.HX2AA.003 monitor. Which upgrades would make the most sense, especially for graphics, memory, and storage?

The key question is which case version you have. If it is the small-form-factor model, you will need a low-profile graphics card that does not require a separate power connector. Options include a GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1650, or the 6 GB version of the RTX 3050. Check the card’s dimensions and power requirements before buying, since not every version will fit.
You can add more RAM or an SSD, but the graphics card will make the biggest difference for gaming. These systems have limited upgrade paths, especially the compact models, so avoid spending the entire budget on upgrades that cannot carry over later. A suitable low-profile GPU could make it useful for lighter games, but a newer gaming PC may offer better value if you need stronger performance.
Before choosing parts, confirm the exact chassis size, current CPU, installed RAM, and power supply. The 7050 has several versions, and that determines which GPU will fit. It can be upgraded for basic gaming, but once you install the maximum practical parts, there is not much room left to improve it.
