What’s the best GPU upgrade from an RTX 3050 for 1440p gaming?

I bought a prebuilt in 2021 and want to extend its life for another couple of years before doing a complete rebuild. I've already upgraded from 16GB to 32GB of DDR4 memory and moved my games off the old hard drive. The system currently has an RTX 3050, but I'm having to lower settings in newer games to maintain a smooth experience.

I mainly play single-player RPGs such as Clair Obscur and Elden Ring, larger games like Genshin Impact, and competitive shooters such as Overwatch. I'd like to play at 1440p on high settings while staying comfortably above 60 FPS.

The rest of the system is an Intel Core i7-10700F, 32GB DDR4 RAM, a 512GB internal NVMe SSD, a 4TB Samsung T7 Shield connected over USB 3.0, and a 600W Bronze power supply. My case is a compact micro tower, so a two-fan graphics card would probably be the safest choice.

Someone is willing to pay about 200 CAD for my RTX 3050, and I'd prefer to keep the upgrade under roughly 500 CAD, with some flexibility. I've been considering a 16GB Radeon 9060 XT. Would that be a good match, or would another card offer better 1440p performance and longevity without requiring a full system upgrade?

The 9060 XT 16GB and a 16GB 5060 Ti are both worth considering if they cost about the same. I’d lean toward the 9060 XT for 1440p because 16GB of VRAM gives it more breathing room than an 8GB model. Older options such as a used RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 3070 can also be good bargains, although their lower VRAM capacity makes them less attractive for keeping the system several more years.

Would you choose the 16GB 5060 Ti over the 16GB 9060 XT if both were available for roughly the same price?

Before deciding, look up benchmarks for the exact games you play with each GPU. A 9060 XT can handle 1440p well, but demanding newer titles may require reduced settings or upscaling, and your 10700F could limit performance in some high-refresh or CPU-heavy situations. At 1080p it should be very comfortable; at 1440p, check whether the benchmarks meet your target without relying heavily on frame generation. Your 600W power supply should generally be adequate for cards in this class, assuming it is a decent-quality unit.

That makes sense. I’ll compare benchmarks for my specific games and check the card dimensions before ordering.

A 16GB Radeon 9060 XT would be a sensible upgrade for this system and should pair well with the i7-10700F. It offers a large performance increase over the RTX 3050, and the extra VRAM is useful for newer games at 1440p. Just check the card’s length, thickness, and power connectors before buying because compact cases can be restrictive.
