What’s the best way to remove all preinstalled Office and OneDrive apps?

New laptops often arrive with Microsoft Office installed in several languages, along with OneDrive and other bundled components. Microsoft apparently used to provide a script that removed everything in one pass, but I can't find it now. Is there an official command or reliable script that can completely remove the preinstalled Office versions and OneDrive across multiple machines?

For a Microsoft-provided troubleshooting option, use the Office uninstall support tool. It can detect and remove Office installations that don’t uninstall cleanly through Apps and Features. Test it on one model first, since OEM and subscription-based installations can behave differently.

If these are newly purchased machines, the cleanest long-term solution is to reimage them or request a clean Windows image from the vendor. That avoids having to maintain removal scripts for every factory-installed variation. Just remember that a factory recovery partition may reinstall the bundled software, so use a proper Windows installation source or managed deployment image.

A fresh installation is different from simply removing the apps: many vendor recovery partitions contain the original bundled image. For a fleet, standardizing the image and deploying it consistently is generally safer.

The Microsoft-supported approach is to use the Office Deployment Tool with a configuration file containing . That should remove Click-to-Run Office installations, including the unwanted language packs. It’s much more targeted and predictable than running a broad debloating script.

This is what we use in an automated setup. The script launches the Deployment Tool with the appropriate configuration, and it has been reliable for removing the Office installation without touching unrelated Windows components.

There are third-party Office scrubbers and Windows debloat utilities that can remove Office, OneDrive, and other bundled apps, but be cautious with anything that modifies system components, registry entries, or policies. Some broad debloat scripts have caused operating-system problems later. If you use one, restrict it to app removal, review the code, and test it in a lab before applying it to production laptops.
