Which B850 motherboard would be a reliable replacement for my problematic MSI B650?

My MSI PRO B650 motherboard has had serious problems since day one, including disconnects from the onboard Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and four USB 3.0 ports. I can only use the system reliably after disabling the affected features and avoiding those USB ports, leaving me with just three usable USB connections. I currently use a separate Ethernet adapter for internet access.

The board also frequently hangs on the orange debug light after restarting or waking from sleep. Adjusting the SoC voltage in the BIOS can resolve that behavior, but then the USB ports become unstable, especially the four that already have problems. I have already tried BIOS updates, power-management changes, power cycling, USB hubs, and checking the rest of the system. My CPU, RAM, graphics card, and power supply appear stable when the affected motherboard features are disabled.

I want to replace only the motherboard. I plan to keep my Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and full-tower ATX case, and I will eventually need more USB ports for a microphone and camera. I am considering a Gigabyte B850 board or the MSI MAG B850 MAX, but I am hesitant to buy another MSI board after this experience. What reliable B850 models should I consider, and are there any networking controllers or motherboard features I should avoid?

Be cautious with boards using Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet controllers, particularly the I225 and I226 families. Those controllers have had recurring connectivity problems, so I would favor a model using a different LAN controller or verify the exact controller before ordering. That will not guarantee perfect USB or sleep behavior, but it removes one known source of trouble.

Good point—I will check the specific Ethernet controller instead of assuming every B850 board uses the same one.

The CPU, graphics card, and case details are useful here: a 7600X and 9070 XT should work with any properly designed AM5 B850 ATX board. Since you need several USB devices, compare the total rear and front-panel USB connections, internal headers, and the exact onboard network and Wi-Fi controllers rather than choosing only by brand. Also check the board's current BIOS and user reports for USB, sleep, and memory-training behavior before buying.

I am keeping my current 7600X, 9070 XT, and full-tower ATX case. The motherboard is the only part I am replacing, and having enough reliable USB ports is a major priority.
