I'm upgrading from integrated graphics to a dedicated GPU and plan to stay on the AM4 platform rather than spend extra money moving to DDR5. I'm considering an RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 4070 Super, or RTX 5070. The RTX 5070 has become much more expensive, so I'm unsure whether to keep saving for it or choose one of the other cards instead. The system would use a Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X. I mainly want to play Minecraft with shaders at 1440p, along with video editing, 3D modeling, and some light coding. Current prices are about $411 for a new 3080 Ti, $575 for a used RTX 4070 Super, and $985–$1,232 for a new RTX 5070.

The 3080 Ti is tempting at $411, but check its condition and warranty carefully. It uses around 350W, runs hotter, and may require a stronger power supply than the 4070 Super. If it’s genuinely new with a reliable warranty, it offers good raw performance, but the 4070 Super is the safer overall buy for efficiency and longevity.
At those prices, the RTX 4070 Super is the sensible choice. The three cards should be fairly close in regular gaming performance, but the 4070 Super is much more efficient than the 3080 Ti and comes with newer features. The RTX 5070 is dramatically overpriced here, so it isn’t worth saving nearly twice as much for unless its price drops substantially.
A Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X is perfectly reasonable for this build, especially at 1440p. For Minecraft shaders, GPU performance matters a lot, and either the 3080 Ti or 4070 Super should handle 1440p well. For editing and 3D work, NVIDIA’s CUDA and encoding support are useful, so I’d choose between those two based on warranty, condition, and your power supply rather than buying the overpriced 5070.

That makes sense. I was mainly worried about missing out on the newer features, but the price difference is huge.
