I recently started using Linux with the Cinnamon desktop, and I'm being prompted for my password whenever I open certain applications. I'd like to stop the repeated prompts and understand what is causing them, preferably with beginner-friendly steps and no programming assumed. Also, my Caps Lock key worked in Windows but doesn't seem to work properly here. I'm not sure whether it fails completely or just doesn't stay enabled.

The exact app matters here, because this isn’t normal for every application. If it happens with several apps, try creating a temporary new user and opening them there. If the prompts disappear, something in your main account’s settings is probably causing it.
This may be the desktop keyring asking to be unlocked. That can happen when the keyring password doesn’t match your login password, or when you log in without entering a password. Updating the keyring password to match your account password, or fixing the automatic login setup, usually stops the repeated prompts.
If the password prompt appears while installing software or changing system settings, it’s probably an administrator authentication request rather than an app launching normally. Knowing which programs trigger it, when this started, and how you installed them would help narrow it down. For Caps Lock, check the keyboard settings and test whether the key changes the indicator or simply fails to affect typed letters.
