I have a Dell Latitude 3120 with 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD with about 199 GB free, and an Intel Pentium Silver N6000 quad-core processor. It runs Windows 11 25H2. I mainly use it for basic tasks, keep my number of open tabs reasonable, and do not play games. Under normal conditions, CPU usage is fine.
The problem happens when I watch long-running live streams on sites such as Twitch. After some time, CPU usage suddenly becomes very high, regardless of which browser I use. It does not happen every time, and changing the video quality does not seem to make a difference. Streaming is the only situation where I regularly see this kind of spike.
Windows, Dell, Intel drivers, and the BIOS are up to date. Defender is the only program set to launch at startup, and I have removed Dell's extra software. I understand this is an entry-level laptop, but is there anything I can check or adjust to reduce these streaming-related CPU spikes?

With a Pentium Silver N6000, the system has limited performance headroom, so a browser process, background maintenance task, or Windows Update could push CPU usage high after the laptop has been running for a while. When it happens, check Task Manager’s Processes and Details tabs to see which browser process or service is actually consuming the CPU. Also check temperatures and clock speed, since heat or power limits can cause throttling that makes normal browser work take much longer.
This hardware is close to the lower practical limit for Windows 11, especially for long-running high-resolution live video. The browser may normally use hardware video decoding, but if decoding fails or gets disabled, the CPU has to do much more work. Check the browser’s hardware-acceleration setting, update the graphics driver, and compare the browser’s GPU/video decode information while the stream is running. If the issue continues, a lightweight Linux distribution or a ChromeOS-based setup may run more comfortably on this laptop.

The spike only appears while a stream is playing in a browser, and I do not see the same behavior during ordinary system tasks. I’ll check whether a particular browser process or background service is responsible when it happens.
