Why does my Windows 11 laptop take about a minute to restart or shut down?

My Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 running Windows 11 takes roughly a minute to restart, which is noticeably slower than expected. When I choose Shut down, the display turns black but the keyboard, mouse, and other connected peripherals remain powered for a while before the laptop finally turns off. The system does eventually complete both operations and does not appear completely frozen. I would like to identify the specific service, driver, device, or power-management feature causing the delay rather than applying generic optimization tools or randomly changing settings. Please suggest a systematic troubleshooting process and explain what each test is checking before recommending changes.

Start by checking Windows' own shutdown performance logs. Open Event Viewer and browse to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnostics-Performance > Operational. Event ID 200 summarizes the shutdown duration, while events 201, 202, and 203 can identify an application, service, or device that delayed it. If the same component appears repeatedly, that is a much stronger lead than guessing at settings. Since the delay is about a minute, record the exact times and compare them with the logged duration.

If the event logs do not clearly identify the cause, perform a clean-boot comparison. In System Configuration, hide Microsoft services, disable the remaining third-party services, and disable startup applications in Task Manager. Restart twice and compare the timing. If the problem disappears, re-enable items in groups until the delay returns. On this laptop, pay particular attention to hardware-control utilities and graphics-driver services, but use the test to confirm the culprit before changing or uninstalling anything.

Test whether Fast Startup is involved by opening Command Prompt and running `shutdown /s /t 0`, then timing how long a complete power-off takes. Windows normally uses Fast Startup during Shut down, which saves part of the system session to disk and can leave the display black while hardware remains powered. This test performs a full shutdown instead. However, Fast Startup does not affect Restart, so if restarting is also slow, a service or driver that takes too long to stop is more likely.
