My Logitech B100 wired mouse works briefly after I restart my laptop, but after roughly an hour it stops responding. The red optical light turns on for a moment when I plug it in or scan for hardware changes, then goes out, and clicks or movement do nothing. Removing the mouse drivers and rebooting temporarily fixes it, but the problem returns. I tested another wired B100 mouse and also a remote mouse app, which showed the same behavior. The laptop's trackpad continues working normally, so I'm wondering whether this is a USB power, driver, or chipset issue and how to fix it permanently without restarting every hour.

Updating the chipset and USB hub controller drivers would be another good step. Get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer first; Intel chipset and USB-related drivers may also be available through Intel, depending on the laptop model. You shouldn’t necessarily need an entire driver pack if the manufacturer provides separate chipset or USB drivers.
Testing another mouse is useful for ruling out a failing mouse or cable. Since a second wired B100 has the same problem and the trackpad stays functional, the issue is more likely related to USB power management, controller drivers, or the laptop’s USB ports than the original mouse itself.
I tested another wired mouse and saw the same behavior, so the problem doesn’t seem limited to one mouse.
Check the USB power settings first. In Device Manager, open the USB controllers section, check each USB hub’s Power Management tab, and turn off “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” Also try disabling USB selective suspend in Windows’ advanced power settings.
I’ll check those settings. If power saving is already disabled, I’m not sure whether to keep troubleshooting software or start suspecting the laptop’s USB hardware.
The laptop uses an Intel i5 processor. I’ll look for the specific chipset and USB controller drivers rather than installing unrelated packages.
