That behavior is expected. The Control Center button doesn’t fully disable Wi‑Fi—it disconnects the phone from the current network until the next day, or until certain events happen. AirDrop also relies on Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth, so you can’t keep Wi‑Fi completely off and still use AirDrop. For a true shutdown, open Settings > Wi‑Fi and switch it off there, then turn it back on when you want to use AirDrop.
