Why Is My New Desktop So Slow on Wi‑Fi?

I just bought a CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme desktop and its internet connection is extremely slow over Wi‑Fi. My laptop gets about 53.1 Mbps download and 0.06 Mbps upload on the same network, but the new PC only reaches around 0.70 Mbps download, and the upload test will not even complete. I skipped a few Windows 11 setup steps, so I'm wondering whether unfinished updates or drivers could be causing this. Does the PC need to finish installing everything, or could there be another issue?

Check whether the Wi‑Fi antennas are attached to the back of the desktop. Many desktop Wi‑Fi cards work very poorly without their included antennas, and they’re often packed separately in the accessories box.

That was it—I found the antennas and connected them. Thanks!

If you can, test the PC with an Ethernet cable first. That helps determine whether the problem is with Windows or drivers versus the desktop’s Wi‑Fi hardware and signal.

Make sure both antenna connectors are screwed on securely. If the connection is still weak afterward, updating the Wi‑Fi driver or installing a newer Wi‑Fi card can help, though Ethernet is usually the most reliable option for a desktop.
