Why Is My Phone Losing Battery Even While It’s Charging?

My phone has started losing battery percentage while plugged in instead of charging normally. On one occasion, it dropped from about 70% to 30% overnight while connected to the charger. When the phone is turned off, the percentage stays the same, and when I use it while plugged in, it charges very slowly or remains stuck at the same level. How can I tell whether the problem is the phone, charging cable, power adapter, battery, or an app running in the background?

Check the power adapter’s output as well. Some adapters don’t provide enough wattage, especially while the phone is being used. A suitable adapter with roughly 20W or the wattage recommended for your phone is a reasonable test before replacing the phone.

The problem could be the cable, the power adapter, or the phone’s charging port. Try the same charger with another phone, then try your phone with a different known-good cable and adapter. That should help narrow down which part is failing.
