Wi-Fi Disconnects for About 30 Seconds Several Times a Day

My home internet service has started cutting out multiple times a day. It first became noticeable while streaming: the video would buffer every few minutes, then continue normally. Now my phone and TV randomly stop loading, disconnect from Wi-Fi, and reconnect after roughly 30 seconds. Restarting the equipment several times hasn't fixed it. I contacted my provider, and they remotely rebooted or refreshed the equipment, but the problem continues. Several other customers in my neighborhood are reporting similar interruptions, although some are located farther away. How can I determine whether the problem is with my home Wi-Fi or with the provider's actual internet connection, and what might fix it?

First figure out whether the Wi-Fi signal inside your house is dropping or whether the modem is losing its connection to the provider. If possible, connect a computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and see whether the wired connection fails at the same time. If wired and wireless devices both lose access, it points more toward the modem, the outside line, or the provider’s network. If only Wi-Fi devices are affected, interference or a router problem is more likely.

I don’t currently have an Ethernet cable to test with, so I’m not sure how to tell which connection is failing.

A nearby microwave or other source of interference can disrupt Wi-Fi, especially on the crowded 2.4 GHz band, but that usually affects devices inside one home. Since several customers are reporting similar outages, the provider or a shared neighborhood connection is a stronger possibility. Ask support to check the modem’s event logs and signal levels, look for repeated disconnects or errors, and send a technician if the issue continues. Keep track of the exact times and whether every device loses service during each outage.

I’m in a house, and some reports are from nearby while others are several miles away, so it may be a wider service issue rather than interference from one appliance.
