Windows 11 Won’t Boot After Repeated Game Crashes—How Can I Repair It?

My PC crashed several times while launching Siege. The game was installing its security components, then restarted, and my computer crashed immediately after closing it. After about four crashes, Windows 11 stopped starting entirely. The recovery screen says that Windows cannot start and shows Status: 0xc000000f, explaining that a required device is missing or inaccessible. It also displays CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF). What is the safest way to repair Windows without losing my files?

Before attempting major repairs, check whether the SSD or hard drive is detected in the BIOS/UEFI. If it is missing, shut the PC down and reseat the drive and its cables if you’re comfortable doing that. A failing or disconnected drive can produce this exact error, and software repair will not help until the hardware is recognized.

The 0xc000000f message usually means the boot files or a drive volume cannot be accessed. From the USB recovery menu, open Troubleshoot > Advanced options and try System Restore or Startup Repair. If those fail, Command Prompt can be used to inspect the disk and rebuild the boot files, but be careful with commands that modify partitions because they can cause data loss.

You’ll probably need a Windows 11 installation or recovery USB. Use another computer to create one with the official Windows installation media tool, or use a tool such as Rufus with a Windows ISO and an empty USB drive. Boot the broken PC from that USB, choose Repair your computer instead of installing Windows, and try Startup Repair first.
