Advice Needed for Upgrading My Gaming PC

I'm looking to enhance my HP Omen gaming rig. It currently features an RTX 3060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, a Ryzen 7 5800X CPU that's liquid-cooled, 32GB of HyperX Fury DDR4 RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD, and a 750W Platinum power supply. The motherboard model is 8877. I'm really aiming for more storage and possibly faster speeds. Since I bought it pre-built, I want to do some upgrades now as I learn more about building PCs and plan to build one in the future. Any suggestions?

Your CPU can only be upgraded to a Ryzen 9 5900X or 5950X, but keep in mind those are quite costly, like $200 for the 5900X. You might want to consider a Ryzen 7 5700X for around $250-$350 if you're focusing on gaming. However, if you’re thinking about a full build later, investing in an AM5 system or a different motherboard with more upgrade potential could be wise.

What do you think I should look out for in a new motherboard? It's important for future upgrades.

Definitely check for support for PCIe4 or PCIe5 and more M.2 slots for storage. A decent B550 motherboard should give you good options!

For storage upgrades, I recommend looking into the Samsung 990 Pro SSD if you have an empty M.2 slot available. It's one of the best options out there. If you don't have an extra slot, consider getting a 2TB WD Blue SN5000, which is reasonably priced and decent for gaming. It's often around $124 but may be out of stock, so keep an eye on it!

Is the Samsung 990 Pro a simple swap, or does it require special installation? I still have an open board.

Yeah, it's pretty much plug-and-play if you have the slot, but definitely check if it's compatible with your motherboard!
