Advice Needed: What to Do About a Used Laptop with a Virus?

I recently bought a used laptop online, and Windows Defender has flagged it with the Experio virus, which affects executable files. I'm quite pleased with the laptop's build and performance otherwise. Should I attempt to eliminate the virus by doing a fresh reinstall of Windows 11 Pro, or would it be wiser to just get a replacement? I haven't connected the laptop to the internet or logged in with any of my credentials yet. It had Windows 11 Pro installed from the start. I've tested the USB ports with a thumb drive. What steps should I follow to ensure I can keep using this copy of Windows 11 Pro while also removing the virus? Specifically, if I go the wipe-and-reinstall route, what should I do about the necessary drivers for this Lenovo P1 Gen 3 laptop? Is there anything I might be overlooking? Thanks for your help!

Make sure to download the necessary drivers from the manufacturer's site using another computer before you reinstall Windows 11. This way, you’ll have everything ready to set up your laptop properly after the wipe.

That's solid advice! I feel more confident about going forward with the Windows reinstall.

Before making any major changes, double-check that you have your data backed up. Changing BIOS settings or disk setups can be risky and lead to data loss. For more guidance, take a look at FAQ threads available online that explain Windows 11 clean installs.

If you're facing malware issues, you could start trying to remove it with anti-malware software. If that doesn't work, you might need to completely wipe the SSD. Just make sure to back up any important files first since they could be infected too. When you reinstall Windows from a USB, remove all old SSD partitions to get rid of any potential infections. It's best to get a fresh ISO directly from Microsoft and create a bootable USB using a clean computer.
