Hey everyone! I've been working in IT as a Level 1 support agent for about two years now, and I recently earned my bachelor's in Information Science and Technology. I'm currently preparing for my CompTIA A+ certification and taking some introductory Linux classes from Linux Foundation. I've also purchased the Security+ and Network+ books, which I plan to dive into after I finish A+. However, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out my next steps. I love interacting with people and troubleshooting issues that arise from different systems interacting with each other. I would appreciate any guidance from those who have been through this journey before!

Your interest in people and problem-solving is crucial in IT. Almost every tech role involves some form of customer service—whether it's end users or your team. Keep exploring different IT areas until something really ignites your passion. It’s okay not to have it all figured out yet; after some experience, you might find your niche!
Definitely keep your A+, Network+, and Security+ as your priority. A CCNA is also great, but focus on what resonates with you. Explore fields like networking, wireless, or security, and think about projects you can do to gain practical experience. Setting clear goals can make a huge difference!
It really depends on your long-term goals. IT is a vast field! You have a solid base that gives you versatility. It might help to focus on what you want to do—be it network admin, cybersecurity, or something else. Specializing a bit can help you become an expert while you're still building that foundational knowledge you're accumulating. Good luck on your journey!
I recommend looking into some ISC2 certifications as well. Some may be further down your career timeline, but others could be achievable within the next year or two. I’d prioritize getting your Network+ certification—it’s a good foundation, and I've seen interns really benefit from it. Deciding what you want to specialize in long-term is crucial, but remember to stay flexible as the IT field is huge and always changing! Always aim to learn as much as you can, and don't hesitate to seek opportunities for professional development; they rarely come knocking on their own.
Absolutely, Network+ is foundational. It will help you grasp how everything connects. And keep your options open; exploring new areas could yield unexpected but valuable skills!
I have the Network+ book too and plan to tackle it after my A+. Thanks for your encouragement!

Thanks for the perspective! I hadn’t looked at it that way before. I’m thinking I’ll try various paths until one clicks! Now, just to figure out when that will be!
