I have an older gaming desktop that I've transitioned into a streaming machine, but it's quite inefficient for that purpose. My current setup includes a Ryzen 7 3700X, a 2080 Super GPU, 16GB of DDR4 RAM (4x4 GB), and a B450 AM4 motherboard. I'm planning to sell off some parts and make a bunch of upgrades to improve efficiency. Specifically, I want to:
1. Sell the existing GPU.
2. Swap the current CPU for a cheaper one with integrated graphics (I'm looking at the Ryzen 3 2200G) that is compatible with my motherboard.
3. Remove two of the RAM sticks to leave 8 GB total and sell those as well.
4. Replace my PSU with a more efficient, lower wattage one.
I've got a few questions about this process:
1. What good budget CPUs with integrated graphics do you recommend? Is the Ryzen 3 2200G a solid choice?
2. Are more efficient PSUs worth the investment?
3. Do you think I can sell my current CPU and 4GB RAM sticks?
4. Is it worth trying to sell the old PSU?

If you're all about efficiency, selling everything for a mini PC might be the way to go. Something like the Beelink i3 model could handle your streaming needs without any fuss. You could even look into the Intel N100 or N150 for a lower power draw while getting decent performance.
Yeah, if you aren’t gaming, a mini PC might give you everything you need with less power.
Just to clarify, if you're only using this for streaming from platforms like Netflix and YouTube, you probably don't need a GPU at all! You could sell both the CPU and GPU to fund a new cheaper CPU with integrated graphics. If you're not hosting your content, a solid CPU will do all the work.
Great clarification! I didn't realize I could get by without a GPU for just watching.
Makes sense! This might save me some money in the end.
I've been in a similar situation with my old hardware. If you're going down the integrated graphics route, 16GB of RAM will be helpful for Windows. But selling the old RAM sticks may be harder, they just aren't as in demand. As for the PSU, most people don't usually buy used PSUs unless they're a really good deal.
Sounds like I might just keep the RAM then! Thanks for the insights!
True, sticking with the 16GB is probably the smart move!
Instead of the 2200G, consider the Ryzen 5600G if your B450 board supports it. It offers significantly better media encoding and efficient 4K playback. Regarding PSU efficiency, it typically becomes worthwhile only if you can lower power consumption significantly. Your existing Seasonic PSU should be just fine for your needs. As for the ram sticks, the 4GB ones might be tough to sell, but the 3700X should have no issues finding a buyer. Selling old PSUs can also be tricky, so think twice before doing it.
Good point! I heard the 5600G is a beast for integrated graphics, definitely worth considering.
Thanks for the help! My thoughts on the PSU were similar, seems like a hassle unless it's really cheap.

That sounds interesting! I didn’t think about a mini PC, but it makes a lot of sense.
