Are High Idle Temperatures Normal for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D?

I just completed my new PC build and I'm seeing idle temperatures for my AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU ranging from 45-55°C according to HWMonitor and Core Temp. I'm a bit concerned about whether these temps are too hot. Here are my specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
- Cooler: Corsair Nautilus 360 RS LCD AIO
- CPU frame: Thermal Grizzly Contact Sealing Frame AM5
- GPU: Palit GeForce RTX 5080 GamingPro 16GB GDDR7
- Motherboard: MSI X870E Gaming Plus WiFi
- Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow with multiple Corsair fans for intake and exhaust
- Ambient temperature is around 22°C in Madrid.

I have Precision Boost Overdrive enabled in the BIOS and have set my fan and pump curves in iCUE. Did I apply my thermal paste correctly? Should I make any tweaks? Thanks for your help!

My 9800X3D also idles at similar temps. What really matters is how it performs when it’s under load, so keep an eye on those max temps when you're running demanding tasks.

Exactly! My 9850X3D also reaches 75°C max during Cinebench loads, and that’s perfectly fine.

It makes sense for the 9850X3D to have higher idle temps because the IO die can consume over 15 watts constantly. If you want to lower it, consider tweaking the SOC voltage until your RAM becomes unstable—for example, if you're running 1.25V for a 3000MHz memory controller, try lowering it to about 1.20V. Stress test with y-cruncher VT3 to see how it holds up.

Good tip! Makes sense with the IO die power consumption. I’m seeing similar idle temps and peaks at 75°C with Cinebench. I’ll definitely try reducing the SOC voltage!

Those idle temperatures are totally normal for your setup. If you're still concerned, you can run a stress test with a program like Geekbench to see how it performs under load. If it sustains clock speeds without throttling, you're good to go! No game will push your CPU that hard anyway.

Thanks for the reassurance! I just ran Cinebench multi-core and hit a peak of 75°C with no throttling, so it looks like I'm in the clear!

Lol, my old 7700K would idle around those temps too, and that was with a big heatsink. You're definitely fine with those current temps!

Right? These newer chips just naturally run hotter.
