I've been having a concerning issue with my CPU since I bought my PC. During the summer, it idles around 50–60°C, but it spikes to a worrying 99°C while gaming. My setup includes an Intel i7 14th gen processor, an RTX 3080 graphics card, and an Aorus M790Z motherboard. Both the Gigabyte Center and MSI Afterburner are showing similar temperatures when I test. I'm eager to find out if this could be a BIOS issue, a faulty reading, or if my fans aren't set up correctly. Despite having five fans in the case plus additional fans for the components, I'm skeptical about those 99°C readings since my exhaust fans aren't burning hot at all. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

It's definitely important to check if the temperature sensor on your CPU is accurate. While faulty sensors can happen, they're not too common. One simple fix would be to use a temperature probe under your CPU cooler to get a more reliable reading. Also, consider your cooler setup. Which type of cooler are you using? You might find a difference in temperature if you try leaving the side or front panel open as well. Lastly, building a barrier above your graphics card could help prevent its heat from rising and affecting your CPU.

I'm using a Cooler Master MasterBox K501L case with 3 front fans and 2 exhaust fans, one on top and one at the back. Plus, the fans that came with my CPU and GPU. Can you explain more about using the probe for readings? I also replied to the first comment for more context. Thanks for your help!
