Are Split PCIe Cables Safe for My 9070XT Setup?

I recently upgraded my GPU to an Asus 9070XT Prime OC, and my power supply unit (PSU) is the Gigabyte G750H. The GPU needs three 8-pin PCIe connectors, but my PSU only has two individual 8-pin cables, which split into two connectors each. I've read mixed opinions online—some users say this setup works fine as long as the PSU can deliver enough power, but given that the recommended PSU for the 9070XT is 750W (the exact wattage of mine), I'm uncertain if I should be concerned about using those split cables. I'm not very knowledgeable about PSU rails and their implications. Can anyone advise if a 750W PSU with two split-end cables is suitable for powering the 9070XT?

I wouldn't recommend it. I tried a similar approach with a 4070 Super, and it ended up damaging the motherboard when the PSU failed. It's risky to use split cables like that; better to play it safe.

That problem seems more about your PSU failing than the split cables. A PSU malfunction could fry a board, regardless of the cable type.

Oh man, that sounds rough! Guess we all have to be careful with our power setups.

The general rule is that the split 8-pin cables need to be able to handle the full wattage. Given that it's a Gigabyte PSU, it should adhere to those standards, so it should be safe to use.

Yes, I'm using two split cables as well! I have one 6+2 cable and another that splits to two for my 9070XT, and I've had zero issues with it. To be honest, the card doesn’t actually require all three connections to run properly since it won't pull that much power. Many 9070XTs are designed with just two 6+2 pins, so you should be fine!

Thanks for the quick reply! That's reassuring to hear. What wattage PSU are you using?
