Are There Any Meaningful CPU Upgrade Options for AM4 in 2026?

I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 5600G and an RX 7600 with 32GB of RAM, and I mainly play competitive games where I'm aiming for low graphics settings and high frame rates. I was considering a CPU upgrade, but I noticed that the only significant performance upgrades for AM4 CPUs are no longer in production. Every X3D CPU I find is priced extremely high—over $400 on places like AliExpress, and used ones aren't much better. With this in mind, is it actually worth upgrading my CPU on the AM4 platform, or should I stick with what I have? I'm really not keen on switching to AM5.

The 5800XT might give you a decent boost in performance for your setup. I’d say it’s one of your best options for upgrading without breaking the bank.

Yeah, seems like the only viable option right now. Appreciate the tip!

The 5600 is a cheap option but it performs adequately for most tasks. Still, if you want a noticeable boost, the 5800XT or any X3D variant might be your best bet, albeit pricey.

Honestly, the 5700X is one of the cheaper upgrades you can go for, then the 5800X, and lastly the X3D models. Besides that, there's not much left in terms of options for AM4, unless you fancy Intel CPUs.

Understood, thanks for clarifying!

Upgrading to the 5800X should give you about a 25-30% performance increase compared to what you have now. However, aside from that, there’s not really much left on the AM4 platform for your needs.

I was worried about that after checking with some sources. The performance gain they suggested sounded suspiciously low given the cache size of the 5800X. I'll definitely look deeper into it.

Honestly, it's probably not worth upgrading if you're being kept from good options due to price and availability. Just keep an eye out for potential discounts or new releases.
