I know that Android is based on Linux, but I'm curious if transitioning from Android to a Linux-based phone provides similar ease of use for basic functions. I recently made the switch from Windows to Linux Mint and I'm wondering if there are decent Linux options available for smartphones. I'm currently looking for a new phone and I'm concerned about all the AI bloatware and spyware that comes with them.

Have you checked out GrapheneOS? It's a privacy-focused option that’s built on top of Android, but it strips away much of the bloatware you'd typically get. It's cool for users who want to keep some familiarity while diving into Linux-based systems.
PostmarketOS is gaining traction as well. It's aiming to bring a proper Linux experience to smartphones, but keep in mind that it's still in development and not all devices are fully supported yet.
Another solid choice could be Ubuntu Touch. It's more specialized for mobile devices and designed to run smoothly on Linux phones. Just be sure to check if your phone is on the supported list!
As someone involved with PostmarketOS, I’ll say it’s a work in progress, but their community is super passionate. Just know that while it’s exciting, you might run into some limitations depending on what you want from your phone.
I've been interested in Linux smartphones since I switched to Linux back during the Windows 8.1 days. The challenge is that until a major phone manufacturer fully embraces Linux, it's going to be a bit tricky for Linux to gain a strong foothold in the smartphone market. It feels like we need to see more support from established OEMs.
