Best CPU and GPU Upgrade Choices for Playing Bethesda Games?

Hey everyone! I've recently picked up the Oblivion Remaster and am diving back into modding Skyrim, and while the visuals are stunning, I'm not thrilled with the performance I'm getting. Right now, I'm hitting about 60-70 FPS in Oblivion Remaster and around 40-50 FPS in Skyrim, especially with my 1200+ graphical mods. I primarily play at 1080p, but I'm considering a switch to 1440p soon. My current setup includes an NVIDIA RTX 3070 and an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. I want to stick with AM4 since there are great deals available now that it's phased out, and I rarely play demanding games aside from these and occasionally Hogwarts. There's a fantastic deal for a new AMD R7 5800XT at Microcenter, but I've heard that an X3D chip might be better for gaming, even if I have to buy used. I'm also open to suggestions for GPUs, as the market is pretty wild right now. I'm definitely avoiding the 50 series, but I'm open to anything else. Any advice?

If you're thinking about cost-effectiveness, it might depend on which games you play more. If you find yourself playing more demanding titles like Skyrim with tons of mods, the CPU upgrade could give you a significant boost, especially if you go for an X3D chip. However, if you primarily want better frame rates now, upgrading the GPU might be worth it, especially with deals coming up.

For Bethesda games, a 5060 Ti with 16GB should work great, but if that’s out of your budget, consider the AMD 7600 to 7800 series as an alternative. As for the CPU, the 5700X3D and 5800X3D are the top choices to really maximize your gaming experience on AM4. While the 5800XT is solid, the difference in performance might just be around 10-15% compared to the 5700X3D.
