I bought my kids HP Victus 15L gaming desktops a couple of years ago, and they're looking to upgrade since they're getting into more demanding games. They've asked for graphics cards for Christmas, and I'd love some help figuring out which options would work with their setups. Here are the specs for each desktop:
Kid A - HP Victus 15L (Product # 59A32AV):
- 500W bronze power supply
- Motherboard: Victus TG02-0 B550A
- Current GPU: Radeon RX 5500
- 500GB SSD
- 16GB DDR4 3200
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
Kid B - HP Victus 15L TG02-0325m (Product # 59A32AV):
- 350W gold power supply
- Motherboard: Victus TG02-0 B550A
- Current GPU: Radeon RX 6400
- 500GB SSD
- 16GB DDR4 3200
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
One of the kids mentioned wanting an AMD Radeon 5700, but I'm worried about compatibility with their cases, CPUs, and power supplies. What would be the best path? I'm also open to the idea that it might be better to start fresh since these machines might not be worth upgrading.

Since both of these desktops belong to the HP Victus line, be aware that they aren't as upgrade-friendly as others. The proprietary motherboard and power supply connectors could limit your options significantly. For Kid B, the 350W PSU won't handle anything too demanding, so you'd likely need to get a higher wattage PSU if you want to upgrade the GPU. A 500W should work for Kid A, but check the specs for any specific requirements. HP supplies can be pricey, but it might be worth it for compatibility.
Before choosing a GPU, consider what games your kids actually want to play. You mentioned they're struggling with Forza 5 and Remnant 2. Both games are somewhat graphics-intensive. If they’re into third-person shooters, something like the RX 5700 could be a good fit, but make sure it’s compatible with the upgraded power supply you're planning to get. If they expect higher frame rates, definitely factor in the refresh rate of their monitors when selecting the GPU.
Got it! They’re on 1080p at 60Hz, so I’ll keep that in mind when selecting the GPU. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the heads up! I figured I'd need an upgrade for Kid B's PSU. I'm thinking both might benefit from a 750W if I can find a deal. Do you think I should stick to AMD cards given their current setups?
