Hey everyone! I'm diving into the world of Linux and I'm looking to breathe some new life into my old MacBook Pro from late 2012. I haven't used it in a while, and I'm eager to learn Linux. With so many distributions out there, which ones do you think would be the best fit for a beginner like me? Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I definitely recommend starting with Ubuntu. It works really well on older hardware and there are tons of tutorials available to help you get started. Plus, most software is released for Ubuntu, so you won't be left out in the cold. Just make sure to resist the urge to jump from one distro to another until you figure out what you truly want from your Linux experience!

If you're looking for more tailored recommendations, check out the distro selection page in our wiki. It has a lot of helpful resources! Just remember to take regular backups and try out new stuff in a virtual machine first. That's the best way to learn without risking your system. Oh, and always make sure you understand the commands you’re entering!

Linux Mint and Fedora are also great options for beginners. Linux Mint has a user-friendly interface that’s pretty similar to traditional desktop environments, making it easier to adjust. Fedora is a bit more cutting-edge but still accessible. They’re both worth checking out!
