I'm looking to step up my gaming experience to 1440p, but funds are tight and upgrading to AM5 isn't feasible right now. Here's what I've got:

- **Motherboard**: ASUS Tuf B450 II
- **CPU**: Ryzen 5 5600X
- **GPU**: RTX 3060
- **RAM**: T-Force Vulcan DDR4 (4 sticks of 8GB)
- **Hard Drive**: 1TB Western Digital
- **SSD**: 500GB
- **PSU**: Corsair RMX Series 850 Watt

I'm considering buying a Ryzen 7 5800X from a friend for $70, and thinking about upgrading to an RTX 5070 as well. What do you think would be the best upgrade path for playing games at 1440p?

I'd focus on the GPU first as well. While the 5800X can offer benefits, it's known to run hot, so ensure you've got a solid cooler if you go that route.

Keeping the 5600X for now sounds wise. Once you get the RTX 5070 working smoothly, think about selling the 3060. If you're looking for a link, I saw the 5070 for around $500, which isn’t a bad deal.

I agree with that approach. I'm running a 5600X with a 6700XT at 1440p, and I'm regularly hitting over 100 FPS on high settings in games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Focus on getting a new GPU first, and you'll be in a good spot for 1440p gaming!

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning towards that option.

Just a heads up, make sure your monitor can keep up with the new hardware!

I'd suggest prioritizing a new GPU over the CPU. As you increase the resolution, the CPU generally becomes less of a bottleneck. I personally use a 5600 with a 4070 Ti Super, and I can play at 3440x1440 with great results, unless you're aiming for extremely high refresh rates.

If I were you, I'd invest in a good monitor before diving into new hardware. Start gaming with your RTX 3060; you can always upgrade to something like the RX 9070 or RTX 5070 later. Upgrading the CPU can wait since you wouldn't see a huge difference.
