Boot Device Issues After CPU Change—Need Help!

I'm reaching out because I'm having a serious issue with my computer. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend put a new CPU into my setup, but it started showing the "select proper boot device" message. After a while, he decided to put my old CPU back in, but I'm still facing the same problem. I managed to access the BIOS and changed the boot priority to my SSD, but when I boot up, the message comes up again. I'm really worried I might lose all my data, and I'm trying to learn more about computer maintenance, but I'm feeling lost. Can anyone offer some guidance on what I should do next?

Hey! Just to clarify, when you say you're getting the "select proper boot device," are you mentioning that it happens even after changing the boot priority? This usually indicates that it's not recognizing your SSD correctly. Make sure that your SSD is properly connected to the motherboard and that there are no loose cables. Also, check if your SSD is showing up in the BIOS. If it isn’t listed, it might be a sign that the SSD is failing or not properly installed.

Definitely check the connections! I once had a similar issue, and all it took was a loose cable. It’s an easy fix if that’s the problem.

Sometimes the issue could also be due to the SSD itself being corrupted or faulty. If it appears in BIOS but still doesn't boot, you might want to consider trying to boot from a USB drive with a recovery tool to see if you can access your files. Just make sure not to format anything without backing it up first!

Thanks for the tip! I'll check if I can boot from a USB and see what happens.
