I recently installed malware on my computer and I'm currently working on removing it. I've quarantined all the detected files using BitDefender, but I'm a bit worried about whether the malware might have spread to my router. Just to play it safe, I've unplugged my computer's Ethernet cable and also my WiFi router. My phones are on mobile data, while my Android TV and PS5 are unplugged. I suspect a Remote Access Trojan (RaT) because I noticed that certain executables keep redownloading when my computer is connected to the internet. I'm wondering if it's possible for my router to be infected and if that would give hackers access to my network.

It's pretty unlikely that the malware spread to your router. For that to happen, the attackers would need either a zero-day exploit or your router's admin password. Most malware usually targets just one platform—so in your case, it's primarily focusing on Windows. Also, remember that routers operate on a different OS than your computer, making them challenging to exploit without physical access or advanced techniques. Reinstalling Windows should do the trick for your PC!

Thanks for the reassurance! I feel a lot better now. Since I just moved here and got my WiFi set up a few weeks ago, should I take any extra security measures?
