I have an old desktop Mac from work that's been collecting dust in my closet for three years. Since my company provided me with a new one, I don't think they'll notice if I use this one for personal use. I'm considering doing a factory reset, but I'm wondering if my employer would have any way of knowing or if I'd get flagged somehow. Specifically, it has some programs like ConnectWise Control installed. Is there a way to check if it's being monitored?

If they do want the Mac back, they would probably wipe it themselves. To be extra cautious, unplug the Wi-Fi before you boot it up. Check the settings for any policies—they might have set it to report back to them. If there's nothing, you're likely good to go! Just remember to sign out of iCloud and Find My Mac before wiping it; that can save you headaches later.
If your company has done everything right, a factory reset might not be possible if it’s enrolled in an MDM. Always best to err on the side of caution.
There's no straightforward way to check if your Mac is still registered as a managed device. If it’s enrolled in a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system, it might check in without you knowing, which could alert someone at your company. But considering it’s a Mac, it’s not very common for companies to set up a thorough MDM, so you might be safe.
Thanks for the input! It makes me a bit nervous about proceeding.
How well do you know your IT team? If you have a good relationship, it might be worth casually asking them about the computer.
Not super close, but I might give it a try!
I understand your concern, but with Apple Business Manager, managing Macs can actually be pretty easy for companies. I'd check with someone knowledgeable about your company's setup.
