Hey everyone! I just got a new laptop and I'm looking to add Steam to it. On my previous laptop, I had Steam and my games stored on a second SSD. Is it possible to remove that SSD from my old laptop and install it into my new one? I'm assuming I will still need to download Steam on the new laptop first, right?

If you have both laptops on the same network while Steam is running on both, you can actually transfer your games from the old laptop to the new one without needing to re-download them! This can save you a ton of time, especially if your SSD is already packed with games.
For a smoother transition, you might want to rename the existing Steam folder to Steam.old before installing Steam on your new setup. After that, delete the new Steam folder and rename Steam.old back to Steam. This way, everything should sync up nicely, as long as the drive letters match! If not, just adjust it in Steam's settings.
Yes, you should be good to go! If the SSD only has your games on it and isn't your main OS drive, just swap it into the new laptop and it should recognize everything. Just make sure to back up any important data if it's on a drive that might need reformatting.
Generally, yes! When you move the SSD over, Steam should detect your games. Just be aware that you might need to run verification for some games since there might be files missing from the install folder. But don't worry, it should work out fine!

Oh, that's a smart move! I've done something similar before; worked perfectly.
