I'm planning to upgrade my PC that I built back in 2020. I mainly use it for watching media and browsing the internet, so I'm not looking for a gaming setup. I want to hold onto some existing parts. Here are my current components:
- CPU: Intel Core i5 9600K (I plan to upgrade this)
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B365M (also getting an upgrade)
- GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1650 (75W)
- PSU: Corsair TX550M 550W
- Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (can I keep this?)
I'm looking to buy these replacement parts:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- Motherboard: MSI B650
I haven't selected RAM yet due to high prices, and I'm aiming to build this in the spring when I get my tax return. Is there anything I might be missing?

If storage is your priority, ensure your new motherboard supports the drives you have. It sounds like you need a decent amount of storage for your Plex server and the 7800X3D can handle gaming if you decide to go in that direction later on. Just make sure to get sufficient RAM that matches your motherboard. You might also want to check out SSDs for faster load times on your server!
Your current PC sounds perfectly fine for your needs as it is! But if you’re looking at the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, keep in mind it’s primarily aimed at gamers. If you just want a smooth browsing experience without breaking the bank, maybe consider sticking with something less powerful unless you have plans for gaming later on. If you do decide to upgrade, though, don't forget about your cooling solution! That Cooler Master should work well enough if you're not pushing the system too hard.
