I'm currently using a Montech King 15 case, B650 Aorus Elite ICE motherboard, Ryzen 5 7600X, 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000, a 360mm Thermalright AIO, an 850W Gold-rated power supply, and an RX 7800 XT. My storage consists of 2TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage and 1TB of PCIe 3.0 storage. My monitor is a 32-inch 4K OLED running at 240Hz.
I really enjoy playing at native 4K with ultra settings, especially for the sharper textures, but demanding games often drop to around 15–30 FPS. I'd like a stronger graphics card so I can keep the visual quality while getting a smoother frame rate.
An AI search tool suggested that I could install a top-end card, even an RTX 5090, although I would apparently need a higher-wattage power supply. Is that accurate? Would my Ryzen 5 7600X hold back a high-end GPU at 4K, and are there any concerns about power, cooling, or compatibility?

The main question is your budget and the features you care about. If you want maximum ray tracing and 4K ultra performance, a higher-end Nvidia card may be worth considering, but even the flagship class will not guarantee 4K/240 FPS in current AAA games. If you mainly want rasterized 4K gaming, a 9070 XT or similar upper-tier card is likely a better value.
I would keep the current CPU, motherboard, memory, and cooler for now, upgrade the GPU, and only consider a CPU upgrade later if your frame-time results show the processor is holding you back.
At 4K, the graphics card does most of the work, so your Ryzen 5 7600X is still a reasonable match for a substantially faster GPU. You don’t necessarily need to replace the CPU immediately, especially if your goal is higher-quality 4K gaming rather than extremely high competitive frame rates.
An RTX 5090 would be compatible in principle, but it is in a completely different price and power class. Your 850W supply should be enough for many other upgrades, but a 5090 generally calls for a high-quality 1000W-class PSU. Make sure the power supply has the proper native connector and that the case has enough room for the card.
You can install a powerful GPU without damaging the rest of the system as long as the power supply meets the card’s requirements, the connectors are installed correctly, and the card fits in the case. A CPU bottleneck is a performance limitation, not usually a safety problem.
At 4K, the GPU is usually the limiting component, so the 7600X should remain usable. You may see a CPU limit in games that target very high frame rates, but that is less likely when running demanding 4K settings. Monitor GPU and CPU temperatures after the upgrade, but normal modern components will protect themselves by reducing clocks or shutting down if temperatures become unsafe.
A 9070 XT would be a much more sensible upgrade for your use case. It should handle 4K ultra well in many games, although the heaviest ray-tracing and path-tracing workloads may still require upscaling or reduced settings. Your existing 850W PSU should generally be suitable, assuming it is a good-quality unit and has the required connectors.
Native 4K at high frame rates is extremely demanding. Even the fastest cards may not reach 60 FPS in modern games with maximum path tracing, so features such as FSR, frame generation, and selective ray-tracing settings are still useful.
That seems like the best balance. I’m more interested in 4K ultra with sensible upscaling than spending several thousand dollars for a relatively small improvement.

That clears up the CPU concern. I was mainly worried that the 7600X would make a high-end card pointless, but I’m aiming for better 4K performance rather than 240 FPS in every game.
