Can ScreenConnect be made to feel smoother than Splashtop?

I’m evaluating ScreenConnect Cloud and like its support workflow, but the remote control feels a little less responsive than Splashtop. I’ve tried lower quality settings and different networks. Are there specific settings or other factors worth checking before I decide?

First, separate a product setting from a connection or endpoint limitation. Compare the same computer, display resolution, network path, and task in each tool. Check whether the lag changes with a wired connection, fewer active displays, or a less demanding screen. If only one device is sluggish, its specs, graphics drivers, or network may be the bigger factor.

For pure mouse and video smoothness, Splashtop may simply feel better to you. ScreenConnect’s appeal for many support teams is the surrounding workflow, like unattended access, backstage tools, commands, and reconnecting after a reboot. Try a representative support session rather than judging only by cursor movement, then weigh the tradeoff against the features you actually use.

That makes sense. I’ll compare the tools across a normal support session, not just a quick screen-control test.

Look for options that affect image quality and capture behavior in the session settings, but don’t expect a magic frame-rate switch to fix every case. Multi-monitor setups, high-resolution displays, and the remote machine’s load can all affect how responsive a session feels. Test one display at a time and note whether the slowdown follows a particular machine or setup.

Also check the security side while evaluating remote access software. ScreenConnect has faced serious security issues, so review current advisories, keep the service updated, and restrict access where your deployment supports it. A speed comparison is only part of the decision for a tool with unattended access.

I’d be cautious about choosing TeamViewer without checking its licensing terms and fit for your support workflow. The discussion raises concerns about licensing, but that doesn’t settle which product is best for every organization. Test the features your technicians depend on, including file transfer, reconnects, clipboard, and multi-monitor support.
