I'm building a new gaming rig aimed at 1440p gaming and could use some advice on which CPU to go with. I've been doing some research and it seems like spending an extra £100-£150 doesn't really result in a noticeable FPS boost when pairing with a 9070XT at 1440p. Currently, I'm considering these CPU options: 9600x for £154.99, 7700 for £199, 7700x for £212, and the 7800X3D for £295. The 9600x looks like a great deal, but I'm concerned about its 6 cores, especially since I also use GIS software like QGIS and ArcGIS for work. I'm mainly going to use this PC for 1440p gaming with titles like Helldivers 2 and Battlefield 6, along with some light GIS work. Anyone running any of these CPUs with a 9070XT?

For a balance of productivity and gaming, I'd suggest going for at least 8 cores. The R7 7700 (non-X) is a solid choice if you’re on a budget—it's fast and power-efficient. If you're looking for high-end performance, the 7800X3D is currently one of the best gaming CPUs out there, also very efficient. Just remember to keep your BIOS updated to the latest stable version and reapply your EXPO settings afterward!
Definitely go with the 7800X3D if you can swing it! It's a powerhouse for gaming, and it should support your productivity tasks really well too. Plus, you'll get better performance in upcoming games which is worth considering for future-proofing your build.
The 7800X3D does sound tempting! It might be worth it for future-proofing if I plan to upgrade my GPU later on. Thanks for the BIOS tip, I'm planning to build in about three weeks!
