Could I Have Damaged My Motherboard During Upgrades?

I recently added a new fan and replaced my CPU, but now my computer won't turn on at all. I even swapped back to the old CPU, but that didn't help either. Upon checking, I noticed some discoloration on the back of the motherboard, and I'm worried that I might have damaged it. Can anyone provide insights on what could be wrong?

The discoloration you noticed is actually pretty common and doesn't necessarily mean your motherboard is fried. Have you tried clearing the CMOS after installing the new CPU? Also, make sure to disconnect the power connectors completely before reconnecting them. Sometimes remnants from the old CPU settings can interfere with the new one.

That's right! Just to be sure, even if everything looks fine, fully unplugging them for a bit and reconnecting can help. And remember, upgrading the BIOS doesn’t always reset settings to default, which could cause issues with the new chip. Just to check—was your new CPU actually brand new or used?

Did your system work before you added the new fan and CPU? If it was working fine before, that might give us more clues about what's gone wrong. But regardless, it’s worth trying a few different things to troubleshoot, like disconnecting that new fan just in case it's causing a problem.

Yes, it was working before all the upgrades. I'll try unplugging the fan and see what happens.
