I've bought and returned three cables today because I clearly underestimated how tech-savvy I am. I'm trying to figure out if a DisplayPort splitter is what I need before I go ahead and purchase one again. I have one DisplayPort and one HDMI port on my computer, and I want to extend my display across two monitors since I'm currently only using one. I attempted to connect the new monitor using the HDMI port, but it just showed 'no signal.' Would using a DisplayPort splitter allow me to extend my content across both screens? Sorry if this question seems silly; my online searches haven't been very helpful.

Actually, a splitter isn't what you need. Instead, look into MST hubs if needed, but typically you shouldn't need one. If your computer has both a DisplayPort and HDMI output, you should be able to use both monitors just fine. Can you share the specs of your setup? It’ll help narrow down the issue!
First off, great question! Before you invest in a splitter, make sure your new monitor is set to the right input. Sometimes they automatically select the source, but it can be worth double-checking.
Thanks! I assume it should select the input automatically, but I'll check it out.

My main monitor has an HDMI port, connected to the DisplayPort on my computer. The second monitor has a DisplayPort, so I tried a DisplayPort to HDMI cable, but it just said 'scanning' then 'no signal.' This is my first time setting up dual screens, so I'm a bit lost. Tech support isn't available either!
